Always wanted to keep honey bees? Anyone can do it – almost anywhere. Learn the basics, from building the beehive to harvesting honey. This series of 6 all day workshops will be held at Honey Pie Farm in Prince Edward County, Ontario. Honey Pie’s Head Drone Gavin North has been keeping bees in the County for 14 years and became a master beekeeper in 2014 at UBC.

#1 Build your own hive – top to bottom. Site preparation. Sun. April 24th $100.00
#2 Tour of the hive. How to install your nucleus of bees. Sun. May 29th $100.00
#3 Catching & preventing swarms. Prepare for the honey flow. Sun. June 26th $100.00
#4 Harvest your honey: uncapping and extracting. Sun. July 24th $100.00
#5 Maintaining bee health: pests & diseases of the hive. Sun. Aug. 21st $100.00
#6 Winter preparations; mead making; about beeswax. Sun. Sept. 18th $100.00
Total cost for all six workshops - $600.00
Early Bird Discount Rate - $550.00 (+HST) for all six workshops - deadline for discounted rate is February 15, 2016.
Prices for equipment & nuclei (bees) are extra. We will order supplies and bees for you as a group.
Cost of a nucleus of bees is $190. Cost of beehive parts is approx. $260
HST is applied to all fees.
Other supplies you will need are hat and veil, gloves, hive tool, smoker. We can order these for you if you don’t have them.
